Journalist reports in book 200 true cases of exploits, dramas and adventures in the oceans

In “Histórias do Mar”, Jorge de Souza tells of situations so surprising that they seem more like works of fiction

The sea has always fascinated humanity. For centuries, many have ventured into uncharted oceans. And that fascination has generated many adventures and stories. Journalist Jorge de Souza rescued several of them on his website, he publishes new true nautical stories every day. The research for these stories gave rise to his book, also called Stories of the Sea - 200 true cases of exploits, dramas, adventures and odysseyes in the oceans, released in April 2019.

The book was written in a reporting tone by the journalist, former editor of the magazines Náutica and Viagem e Turismo, among others. With the sea as his main character, Jorge is an expert in telling complex stories with simple and pleasant language.

It sounds like fiction, but it's real

Some stories are very short and curious; others much larger, but equally extraordinary. All of them, however, have in common the fact that they are true, although in some cases, they are so surprising, they look more like works of fiction.

Like the story of the Frenchman who swam across the Atlantic Ocean. The one about the shark that helped unravel a murder. The passenger who spent 15 years aboard the same liner. The passenger who took control of the ship and prevented it sinking. The sailor who tried to win a round the world race without leaving his place. The adventurer who crossed oceans with a car instead of a boat. The ship that spent 38 years sailing with no one on board and the freighter that was swallowed by a wave and left no trace.
